Kenya announced on Sunday it has been selected to host the third Africa Agritech Expo that will run from June 15-17.
Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Willy Bett said the event will be a regional platform, which will provide innovators with the opportunity to showcase their technologies in the field of agriculture.
"The theme for this year's forum is exploring the most emerging market in the globe and will ensure that the agrarian economies in Africa continue to reduce poverty, especially among farmers," Bett said in a statement.
The three-day conference will bring together over 100 companies from 20 countries from the field of agriculture and livestock.
The CS added that Kenya is focusing on injecting more technology in agriculture.
"The aim is to transform the industry into a modern sector that is commercially oriented and internationally competitive," he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Radeecal Communications, one of the organizers of the event, Sanyal Desai said agriculture employs 65 percent of Africa's labor force directly and indirectly and accounts for 32 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
"Unfortunately, agricultural productivity in the region is one of the lowest in the world," Desai said. Enditem
