Zambia's March inflation eases to 22.2 pct

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambia's annual rate of inflation as measured by all Consumer Price Index (CPI) slightly decreased in March compared to the previous month, the country's statistics agency said on Thursday.

The annual inflation rate decreased from 22.9 percent in February to 22.2 percent in March, according to the Central Statistical Office.

"The decrease in the annual rate of inflation was mainly attributed to price drops in non-food items," John Kalumbi, the agency's director told reporters.

The annual food inflation rate for March was recorded at 26.2 percent compared to 26.4 percent the previous month while the annual non-food inflation decreased to 17.9 percent from 19.1 percent during the same period.

The monthly inflation rate also decreased to 0.5 percent in March compared to 1.2 percent in February. Endit
