1st LD: 7 securitymen killed in Naxalite's landmine blast in central India

Xinhua, March 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least seven Indian security forces personnel were killed in a landmine blast triggered by left-wing Naxalite rebels in the central state of Chhattisgarh Wednesday, a senior police official said.

"The incident happened in Malewada forest near the state's Dantewada district, 350 km from state capital Raipur when a contingent of the para-military Central Reserve Police Force were travelling in a convoy of civilian vehicles," he said on condition of anonymity.

The Naxalites triggered the landmine explosion in which one of the vehicles with seven personnel blew up, killing all of them on the spot, the official said.

Local TV channels reported that the powerful explosion have formed an over six feet wide crater on the road in the forest and senior police officials have rushed to the spot to assess the situation and as a back-up.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said, adding a manhunt was also launched to nab those responsible for the attack on security forces. Endit
