Senegalese PM urges African youths to promote peace, security

Senegal's Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne on Tuesday appealed to African youths to promote peace and security to enable the continent achieve economic development.

The prime minister was speaking in Dakar during the opening of a two-day international summit on youth entrepreneurship and leadership.

"We should not dream of development if African youths keep joining the ranks of Boko Haram, continue to explode themselves in Cameroon, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso or on the beaches of Grand Bassam," Dionne said when he addressed some 250 youths from over 50 African countries and across the world.

"You are the first soldiers of democracy, the first soldiers of the Republic, the first soldiers of security and peace in Africa," the Senegalese prime minister added.

Speaking during the same forum, head of Global Youth Innovation Network Pape Samb said the purpose of the Dakar summit is to reinforce the capacity of youths to fight hunger, create jobs and develop resilient communities in the 100 countries where the organization works.

"To help youths create jobs, fight hunger and transform local economies, banking institutions should provide them with adequate financial services," Samb said.

Another youth leader, Aissatou Padam said "in most cases, what the youths want is an opportunity, collaboration, support and understanding so that they can progress in life." Enditem
