The following are news highlights of Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- Cholera cases in Zambia have continued increasing and the country has now recorded over 500 cases since the water-borne disease broke out last month.

Ministry of Health spokesperson Tasila Pitters said 523 cases have been recorded in six districts from four provinces and attributed the rising incidences to poor sanitation in most residential areas. (ZAMBIA DAILY MAIL)

-- The private sector in Zambia has said electricity buying agreements entered into by the government have continued to hinder private investment into the energy sector.

Private Sector Development Association chairperson Yusuf Dodia said power buying agreements have hindered the private sector because of low electricity tariffs and urged authorities to consider revising the tariffs. (DAILY NATION)

-- Trade unions in Zambia have asked President Edgar Lungu to reverse a recent decision to increase his salary if he has a heart for the poor people in the country.

The Judiciary and Allied Workers Union of Zambia has warned that Lungu risks being voted out during general elections scheduled for this year if he does not reverse the decision. The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia said it was immoral for Lungu and his cabinet to get huge salary hikes and leave the hardworking public workers languishing with peanuts.
