The following are highlights of South African major media outlets on Wednesday.

-- Wednesday is "D-day" for Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to respond to questions from the elite police unit regarding an alleged "rogue unit" established when he was still commissioner of the South African Revenue Service.

He initially resisted the move by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks, but was on Tuesday expected to meet his new deadline and submit his responses on Wednesday. (Business Day)

-- Judgment in the Nkandla case involving President Jacob Zuma will be handed down by the highest court in the country on Thursday morning.

The finding should settle, once and for all, the powers of the Public Protector, which is an external state institution tasked with the investigation of misconduct in state affairs and all spheres of government. (City Press)

-- After four years as AU chairperson, former cabinet minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will be returning to South Africa.
