Rwandan President Paul Kagame has called on all security agencies in the country to ensure maximum and robust security to citizens and the business community at all times.
The comments follow global terrorism threats most especially the recent Brussels terror attacks that left about 30 people dead and dozens wounded.
While speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the new leaders with in the Rwanda Defence Forces including the chiefs of staff for land forces and air force and Secretary General for the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) on Tuesday, Kagame said that security threats continue to increase across the world.
"They bring along with them various challenges and we need to tighten local safety and security organs to curb any incidents. We can and will defeat those who threaten the safety and security of our nation and people," the president added.
At the beginning of this year a Rwandan Muslim cleric Muhammad Mugemangango, suspected of recruiting youth for Islamic State (IS) in Syria was fatally shot by the Rwanda Police.
He was under investigations for mentoring Rwandan youths into Jihad and recruiting them to IS.
Rwanda has not experienced terrorism by any radical groups, however east African neighbours Kenya and Uganda have in the past suffered waves of attacks from Al-Shabaab - the Al Qaeda-affiliated jihadist group based in Somalia. Endit
