Over 31,000 Malian refugees in Burkina Faso food insecure

Xinhua, March 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

The World Food Programme (WFP) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in a joint release on Monday warned that over 31,000 Malian refugees in Burkina Faso are considered to be food insecure.

"In the year 2015, WFP provided food aid consisting of food supplies and cash transfer to over 31,000 Malian refugees," the joint release said.

The release further stated that "WFP was not able to provide cash food assistance in 2016."

The two organizations said that these refugees need support now more than ever and the situation will have dramatic consequences if nothing is done.

WFP"has an urgent need of 2.5 million U.S. dollars to provide the assistance that the Malian refugees need to survive," the release said. Endit
