A 22-year-old Belgian cyclist died on Monday after he suffered a heart attack during a race.

Daan Myngheer, the 2011 Belgian junior champion, had heart attack on Saturday after the Roubaix Metropole Lille rider pulled up in the first stage of the Criterium International in Corsica.

The cyclist, just in the second year as a professional rider, died on Monday in a hospital in d'Ajaccio.

L'Equipe media agency said the young racer also had trouble during an amateur race in 2014, but doctors found no problems with his heart when they examined him immediately afterwards.

It was the second tragedy in cycling in two days after Belgian rider Antoine Demoitie, 25, died after hit by a motorbike following a fall during the Gent-Wevelgem race on Sunday. Enditem
