Myanmar local parliaments Monday agreed to the assignment of three more chief ministers for three respective regions out of 14, according to local parliament sources Tuesday.
The three newly- appointed region or state chief ministers, proposed by President-elect U Htin Kyaw, are U Win Thein for Bago Region, U Min Min Oo for Mon State and Daw Nan Khin Htway Myint for Kayin State.
With the earlier approval of four local chief ministers for Yangon, Ayeyawaddy, Tanintharyi and Shan, the total number of such chief ministers already approved has risen to seven.
The appointment for the remaining seven chief ministers is expected to be announced later.
On Monday when U Nyi Pu of the National League for Democracy (NLD) was raised as nominee for chief minister of Rakhine State in the state's parliament, some MPs from the Arakan National Party (ANP) walked out of the parliament in protest as they want an ethnic national of their own to be chief minister for their state.
The appointment of Rakhine State's chief minister was later postponed to Wednesday.
All the appointed local chief ministers are members of the ruling NLD led by Aung San Suu Kyi.
Meanwhile, the new government cabinet, led by President-elect U Htin Kyaw, is scheduled to be sworn in Wednesday. Endit
