Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Thai army conducted a ground combat exercise in the northern part of the country on Friday.

The Third Army Region organized the one-day exercise in open space and hillside terrains of Sukhothai province, about 440 kilometers north of Bangkok, to demonstrate its combat readiness, effectual uses of varied weapon systems and rapid deployment of servicemen.

About 3,800 army troops participated in the exercise which used live ammunition.

Taking part in the exercise were infantry troops, artillery units, anti-aircraft-artillery units, main battle tanks as well as attack and utility helicopters while a squadron of the air force's F-16 jet fighters joined in a mock bombing mission.

Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, who viewed the army exercise, said it was a satisfactory event in which the army was capable of maintaining its combat readiness in peace time. Endit
