Namibia to open more diplomatic missions

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Namibia says it will open more diplomatic missions this year including in Algeria to strengthen the growing relationship between the two countries.

The minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndeitwah told parliament Thursday that strengthening cooperation with Algeria has a greta potential for Namibia's economic benefit.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also Namibia's deputy prime minister, said her ministry has set aside 743 million Namibian dollars (48 million U.S. dollars) for the purpose of setting up diplomatic missions across the world.

Currently, Namibia has 34 embassies including three consulates.

According to Nandi-Ndaitwah, Namibia is seeking more cooperation through establishing diplomatic missions to make the country's growth at home strategy and the proposed Harambee Prosperity Plan work.

"Our diplomatic missions and consulates are key in the implementation of our foreign policies. The trade delegations that we see visiting Namibia so often are a direct result of the intervention of our ambassadors, high commissioners and their staff," she said. Endit
