Senior official calls for enhanced media role in China-Russia cooperation

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Qibao on Friday called on Chinese and Russian media to play a positive role in promoting the integration of China's Silk Road Economic Belt initiative and the Russia-initiated Eurasian Economic Union(EAEU) project.

Liu, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when addressing the second China-Russia media forum in Beijing.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, signed a joint statement in May last year, agreeing to integrate the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative with the EAEU efforts.

Liu said media from the two sides should strengthen cooperation and mutual trust, and jointly push for new achievements in the implementation of the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative and the EAEU project.

Russian Presidential Administration chief Sergei Ivanov also addressed the forum.

After the opening ceremony of the forum, Liu and Ivanov witnessed the signing of a number of cooperative documents between media of the two countries.

The forum this year focused on the media's role in integrating the two countries' development strategies as well as media exchanges and cooperation. Endit
