30 killed during Holi revelry in Indian state

At least 30 people were killed and dozens injured during Holi revelry in a northern Indian sate, state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said Friday.

The deaths were reported in different parts of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

"In Uttar Pradesh, at least 30 people were killed and dozens others injured during Holi revelry in different parts of the state in the past two days, as cops failed to avert firing, group clashes and drunken driving," the broadcaster said.

According to the broadcaster 19 people were killed in the state's capital city Lucknow alone in group clashes, road accidents because of drunken driving.

"Two people also died in group clashes in Madiaon and Gosaiganj areas, while over 40 people were injured in accidents and clashes," the AIR said.

Holi, also known as the festival of colors, was celebrated across India on Thursday. Endit
