Drugs found inside candles at Mexican airport

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Mexican police found 6 kg of methamphetamine hidden inside scented candles at an airport and destined for the United States, authorities said on Thursday.

Police officers at Guadalajara International Airport discovered two boxes of candles after they were scanned by an X-ray machine and checked by a sniffer dog, Mexican National Commission of Security said, adding that an investigation is underway.

Six candles each filled with 1 kg of a powder-like substance were found. The substance was suspected to be methamphetamine, police said.

As the Easter holiday weekend nears, the Mexican authorities have strengthened security forces at the country's airports and borders to deal with drug-related crimes. Endi
