UN chief to travel to Stockholm, Washington, D.C. next week

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will go to Stockholm, Sweden, and Washington D.C., the United States, next week, Farhan Haq, the deputy UN spokesman, told reporters here Thursday.

The trip will begin following Ban's current travel to Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia and Geneva of Switzerland, Haq said at a daily news briefing here.

The secretary-general will go to Stockholm on March 30 to deliver the Dag Hammarskjold Lecture, which is given in memory of Hammarskjold, the second UN secretary-general, and in recognition of the values that inspired him as the UN chief, Haq said.

The theme will be "Evolving threats, timeless values: the United Nations in a changing global landscape," he said.

During his stay in Stockholm, Ban will also meet with the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.

On March 31, Ban will head to Washington D.C. to take part in the Nuclear Security Summit on April 1, he said.

Ban will be back in New York on the night of April 1. Endit
