Morocco approves military agreement with Saudi Arabia

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco's cabinet on Thursday approved a military agreement with Saudi Arabia.

The agreement aims to reinforce Moroccan-Saudi military cooperation through joint training, military exercises and exchange of expertise in defense industry, Government Spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi said at a press briefing following the weekly cabinet meeting.

Citing a military source, Moroccan daily Al-Massae reported that the agreement signed on Dec. 15 will provide support worth 22 billion U.S. dollars from Saudi Arabia to establish a military industry project in Morocco.

The two countries signed the agreement just one day after Saudi Arabia announced the formation of a multinational Islamic military alliance of which Morocco is a member.

The alliance will be led by Saudi Arabia, with the command center in Riyadh to coordinate and support military operations to fight terrorism and develop necessary programs. Endit
