World tuberculosis day marked in Madagascar

The Word Tuberculosis Day was marked in Madagascar on Thursday with the theme "Unite to End Tuberculosis".
"Madagascar's government always does many efforts to end tuberculosis by improving health care against this disease because fight against tuberculosis means fight against poverty," the minister of Health Professor Mamy Lalatiana Andriamanarivo said on the occasion of the World Tuberculosis Day.
"29,520 patients of tuberculosis were recorded in Madagascar in 2015, and 89 of them were affected by HIV/AIDS," the minister said.
Professor Andriamanarivo said that the disease is among the biggest factor of death in Madagascar especially those who do not go to doctors but 83 percent of patients who completed the 8 months non-stop tuberculosis care were recovered.
The minister added that tuberculosis affects in general in Madagascar people from 15 to 49 years.
He said that in general 233 out of 100,000 people in Madagascar are affected by tuberculosis while the country has about 23 million of population. Endit
