Intelligence sharing platform required after Brussels terror attack: Austrian official

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said here Wednesday that a platform for sharing all intelligence services is needed to fight terrorism.

She said at a press conference that such a platform for intelligence exchange needs to be set up within the next few weeks in light of the Brussels terror attacks, adding that "we have no time to lose."

Without providing details, the minister said several options exist. For example, it could be an independent institution or be attached to a nation, she said.

So far the cooperation between various intelligence services has not functioned adequately, she said, noting that only five states regularly add information to a so-called jihadist data bank.

As to Austria, she said the intelligence service and other domestic authorities have thus far been cooperating very well. Endi
