Police authorities in Canada's western seaport city of Vancouver are encouraging the public and business owners and operators to remain vigilant following Tuesday morning's terror attacks in Brussels, Belgium.
Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Randy Fincham said Tuesday in a statement that they continue to work closely with the policing partners, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams (INSET), the Metro Vancouver Transit Police and other municipal law enforcement agencies.
"We all have a role to play in keeping British Columbians safe. Vigilance is the key to everyone's safety," he added.
There is currently no specific threat to Vancouver, the third largest city in Canada. There are a population of 2.5 million in Greater Vancouver.
According to the police spokesperson, the Vancouver Police Department will be deploying additional police resources throughout the city, following Tuesday's terror attacks in Brussels.
The police also urged anyone who sees what appears to be unusual or suspicious activity to report it to their local police.
A suicide bomber struck at Brussels' Zaventem airport shortly after 8 a.m. local time. An hour later an explosion was heard at the Brussels' Maelbeek metro station in a separate terror attack. At least 34 people were killed and nearly 200 wounded. Endit
