Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spain registered a productive investment of 21.724 billion euros (24.368 billion U.S. dollars) in 2014, which meant a 10.9 percent increase when compared with a year earlier.

The newspaper Expansion reported on Tuesday citing sources from the Spanish Ministry of Economy that foreign investment had reached 21.724 billion euros in 2015, registering a high increase especially in the first nine months of the year.

Foreign investment increased by 44 percent in the first nine months of the year when compared with the same period of a year earlier, while in the last quarter of the year foreign investment fell by 34.8 percent in comparison with 2014.

Spain's State Secretary of Economy Jaime Garcia-Legaz explained that some decisions about investment could be postponed due to political uncertainty as political parties have been unable to form a government since the elections were held in December.

In the last month of the year, foreign investment fell by 49.1 percent to 2.687 billion euros, compared to the 5.274 billion euros of the same month in 2014.

Regarding sectors, the construction sector received a foreign investment of 4.706 billion euros in 2015, which meant a 167 percent increase year-on-year. (1 euro=1.12 U.S. dollar) Enditem
