Russia conducts military drills involving Su-35s fighters in eastern region

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

The crews of Su-35s fighters and Su-24 bombers of Russia's Eastern Military District began drills in the eastern Khabarovsk region, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

The exercises aim to improve the skills of flight crews and fighter bombers on joint assignments, said Alexander Gordeyev, spokesman for the military district, the biggest of Russia's four operational strategic commands.

It will simulate "enemy" attacks and include an airstrike on a convoy of armored vehicles, with more than 40 sorties of flights to be made by the crews.

An air regiment of the district was equipped with two new Su-35s jets in February.

The Su-35s, regarded as a 4++ generation aircraft by its manufacturer Sukhoi, is an upgraded version of the Su-27 multirole fighter. It incorporates a reinforced airframe, improved avionics and radar, thrust-vectoring engines, and a reduced frontal radar signature. Endi
