4 killed, 30 hurt in road mishap in southern India

Xinhua, March 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least four medical students have been killed and 30 others hurt in a major road mishap in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, a police officer said Tuesday.

"The mishap happened when a bus in which the victims were travelling flopped over after hitting a tree late Monday night in the state's Vijayawada district," he said on condition of anonymity.

While four were killed on the spot, those injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of some are said to be serious, the official said.

Eyewitnesses told cops that the mishap happened as the driver, who was drunk, lost control of the speeding bus while negotiating a bend.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said, adding the driver of the bus has also been killed in the mishap. Enditem
