Faster train control system gives Chinese firm tech edge

Xinhua, March 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

A faster transmission system developed by stated-owned train maker CRRC has been successfully tested in its trains, giving the firm an edge over rivals in key rail technology.

The system, called TCSN, is a proprietary information transmission network developed by the Zhuzhou Institute of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC).

Train control systems transmit, process, store and display information from trains.

Unlike previous generations of train control systems, in which information transmission is subject to bandwidth and speed limits, TCSN ensures smoother transmission through expanded bandwidth and the ability to sync clocks within less than a microsecond, according to researchers at the CRRC institute.

Transmission speeds for TCSN are more than 60 times faster than previous systems.

The industry is looking for faster and smarter transmission to meet growing expectations in remote maintenance, troubleshooting and comfort in train travel.

CRRC added that the new system could also place the firm on stronger footing to compete with foreign rivals in the international market. Endi
