Two Afghan Taliban weapon facilitators detained: official

Xinhua, March 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two Taliban weapon facilitators had been detained in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Tuesday.

"The facilitators named Mohammad Azam and Zabiullah have been captured by personnel of NDS following a special operation in surrounding areas of Kunduz province recently," NDS, the country's national spy agency, said in a statement.

The NDS forces also captured two terrorists, a Tajikistani national named Harref and a local man named Ahmad, after the above raid, according to the statement.

Two grenade launchers, 22 telecommunication radios were among items along a vehicle seized following the raid in the province, 250 km north of Kabul, the statement noted.

The Afghan forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its position during the winter in the Central Asian country.

Earlier this month, a Taliban weapon facilitator was detained by the spy agency personnel in the country's eastern province of Logar.

The militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
