Modern pentathlete David Svoboda revealed he has not given up hope of defending his Olympic gold medal in August after continuing his comeback from injury at a Rio 2016 test event.
The 30-year-old Czech has been beset by leg and muscle injuries in recent years, prompting his world ranking to plummet to 19th.
But he showed he is close to regaining full fitness by finishing 16th in the Rio leg of the UIPM 2016 World Cup on Sunday.
"This is all about training, testing, looking around and getting information," Svoboda told Rio2016.com.
"I am very happy, but I also know that my shape has to improve for the Olympics. My goal is to be in the top 10 again and the dream is to win a medal. I will do everything I can to be at 100 per cent and hopefully all the work will pay off."
The competition was won by 20-year-old South Korean Jun Woongtae, with Egypt's Omar El Geziry taking silver and Adam Marosi of Hungary clinching bronze.
Italy's Claudia Cesarini won the women's event ahead of Germany's Lena Schoneborn and Donata Rimsaite of Russia. Endit
