Brazil giants Palmeiras confirm Cuca as new coach

Xinhua, March 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former Shandong Luneng coach Cuca was Monday confirmed as the new manager of eight-time Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras.

Cuca replaces Marcelo Oliveira, who was sacked after the Sao Paulo club's 2-1 Copa Libertadores defeat to Uruguay's Nacional last Wednesday.

The 52-year-old, who parted ways with Shandong Luneng in December, will be tied to Palmeiras until December.

Once touted as a possible coach of Brazil's national team, Cuca led Brazil's Atletico Mineiro to the Copa Libertadores trophy - South America's premier club tournament - in 2013.

Palmeiras are currently second in their Copa Libertadores group with four points from three matches. Endit
