Nepali PM's upcoming China visit to be milestone in cementing bilateral ties

Nepali Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli's upcoming official visit to China, which begins on March 20, will be a milestone in cementing bilateral relations between the two countries, a senior Nepali government official said here Monday.

Speaking to the media in Capital City Kathmandu, Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, who is also in-charge of foreign affairs, said that the prime minister's trip to China is aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation on various areas such as trade, transit and investment.

He said that a week-long visit by the prime minister to China will add a new avenue in the bilateral relations.

"The government is about to complete internal preparations for the prime minister's China visit as well as agend to be discussed with the Chinese side," the deputy prime minister said.

Thapa said that Prime Minister Oli will hold talks with top Chinese leadership in Beijing on March 21 to strengthen the close relationship.

"We will try our best to finalize major bilateral cooperation deals on trade, transit and energy with the Chinese side during this visit."

As many as six Memorandum of Understandings are expected to be signed between China and Nepal during the visit, the minister further said, adding that the Nepali side will seek Chinese assistance in developing infrastructure projects in Nepal. Endit
