Afghan forces capture 7 Taliban members, foil terror attack

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Afghan security forces have captured seven members of the Taliban outfit in the country's eastern province of Nangarhar, foiling a potential terror attack, the National Directorate for Security (NDS) said on Monday.

"A seven-member group of Taliban had been captured after personnel of NDS carried out a special operation in Nangarhar province recently," NDS, the country's intelligence agency confirmed in a statement.

The captives tried to conduct a terrorist attack in a crowded area of Jalalabad city, capital of Nangahar, some 120 km east of Kabul, it said.

One RPG-7 rocket launcher and three AK-47 assault rifles were seized following the raid, the statement noted.

The statement added that the timely arrest of the men has foiled a major terror attack and saved the city from an expected tragedy.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions during the winter in the Central Asian country. Enditem
