Interview: Argentina benefits from China's economic development: Argentine expert

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

As comprehensive strategic partners, Argentina is benefiting from a growing Chinese economy, Argentine expert Gustavo Girado told Xinhua in a recent interview.

"With great purchasing power, China has risen as an extremely important market for Latin America," said Girado, head of the Asia and Argentina Consultancy.

China also is Argentina's second largest trading partner, the largest agricultural product exporter and the third largest investor.

The economic links between the two countries "have served to show the growing mutual trust," said the expert.

Speaking of China's current economic transformation and its emphasis on domestic consumption, the Argentine expert said "China has improved the national welfare with a large middle class population."

He believed that this is why Argentina will continue to provide an increasing amount of various products to the country in the long term.

Stimulated by a wave of innovation and entrepreneurship, China's rising middle class are becoming more in line with the characteristics and patterns of Western economies, which Argentina is already used to, said Girado.

In December, President Mauricio Macri took office. "This new government has laid greater emphasis on international trade, which will help increase the presence of Chinese products in Argentina and vice versa," said Girado.

The 54 agreements signed in the last two years have led to deeper cooperation, which the expert believed will improve the lives of both peoples.

Girado also said that China's "Belt and Road" initiative is "extraordinary."

"This initiative is beneficial to China's neighboring countries, which are especially in need of infrastructural investment," he said. Endi
