12 IS militants killed in premature blast in Afghanistan

Xinhua, March 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

About 12 militants of the Islamic State (IS) group had been killed and 21 others wounded in an explosion in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, said a military statement on Monday.

"On Sunday, IS militants were busy in building an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a house but the device exploded prematurely, causing causalities among the militants," the statement released by Afghan army Corps 201 Selab said.

The IS militants tried to plant the IED in Bazaar-e-Shaddal area of Achin district to target security forces but they became the victim of their own bomb, the statement noted.

On Saturday, two IS fighters were killed and three others wounded in a similar incident at the same district.

Militants loyal to IS who are active in parts of the mountainous Achin, Mohmand and Kot districts haven't responded to the official statement yet. Endit
