Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is to kick off a five-day visit to Afghanistan, starting Monday afternoon.

According to ICRC, the objectives of Maurer's visit include shedding light on the intensifying conflict in Afghanistan as insecurity increases, highlighting the humanitarian concerns to the donor community and main stakeholders in Afghanistan and reiterating ICRC's commitment to assisting and protecting the people affected by the ongoing armed conflict.

Upon his arrival to Kabul, he is expected to meet with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah to exchange ideas on the humanitarian aid in the war-plagued nation.

He will also make field trips to provinces to see the displaced people and visit local orthopedic centers. Endit
