Madagascar to host Francophonie summit

Xinhua, March 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Madagascar is to host the 16th French-speaking countries (La Francophonie) summit from Nov.15 to Nov. 20, with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon being expected to attend.

"The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon already received invitation from Madagascar's president Hery Rajaonarimampianina, and we just wait his response," minister of Foreign Affairs Atallah Beatrice said Thursday.

Until now, three high-level guests, including French President Francois Hollande, Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau and the King of Morocco Mohamed VI are already known to come for the summit, said the minister.

With the theme "Shared Growth and Responsible Development," heads of states and government officials from the 80 country-members of La Francophonie, will attend the summit.

The organization committee of the summit said 274 millions of people speak French currently in the world. Enditem
