Tokyo stocks extend gains as oil rebound lifts U.S. shares, weak yen adds support

Tokyo stocks extended gains Thursday morning as rising oil prices gave U.S. shares a boost overnight, with a weaker yen also lifting sentiment here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 163.90 points, or 0.98 percent, from Wednesday to 16,806.10.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, was up 12.32 points, or 0.92 percent, to 1,344.65.

Notable gainers at the morning break comprised mining, pulp and paper, and textile-linked issues. Endit
