The Namibian Otjomuise Secondary School, a Chinese-aid project, was officially opened in capital city Windhoek on Wednesday.
Officially opening the school, Namibian Vice President Nicky Iyambo said that the opening of the school marks the cemented friendship and is seen as a symbol of the all-weather friendship between China and Namibia.
The state-of-the-art school, which will cater for Grades 8-12 students and accommodate up to 690 learners, is the result of an agreement reached between the Namibian and Chinese governments in 2011, in which China provided a grant of about 10 million U.S. dollars for the project.
"A donation of this proportion can only come from an all-weather, old friend like China. Our good friend from the dark days of the national liberation struggle, clearly understands the need for education in Namibian context," said the Vice President.
Handing over the school, Chinese Ambassador Xin Shunkang to Namibia said that the secondary school would provide local learners with opportunities to acquire knowledge while embracing the value of respect and self-discipline.
The school is also well-equipped with facilities comprising hostel for 220 learners, staff accommodation, dining hall, 23 classrooms, chemistry& physics laboratory, computer laboratory, music room, multi-purpose hall and a sport field. Enditem
