Militants death toll rises to 42 in Tunisia border town attack

Xinhua, March 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

The militants' death toll rose to 42 following the security operation in Ben Guerdane in southwestern Tunisia, authorities said on Wednesday.

At least seven terrorists were killed by security forces on Tuesday in an ongoing armed confrontation in Ben Guerdane near the Libyan border, the interior and defense ministries said in a joint statement.

"The pursuit is still ongoing," the statement said, adding that the security agents have seized some weapons and munitions from the militants.

Heavy fighting burst out on Monday between Tunisian forces and a group of militants who attacked police and army posts in Ben Guerdane, a border town near Libya.

The clashes left at least 29 militants, five civilians and four security personnel dead on Monday. The government then announced a night-time curfew in the affected border region. Endit
