Three policemen killed in Mogadishu car blast

Xinhua, March 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Three police officers were killed in a car explosion in Mogadishu early Wednesday, the police said.

Ali Bare Hersi, Police Commander of Benadir region, said the explosion went off at an eatery close to the main police station in the capital, killing three policemen.

He said one attacker was also killed in the blast, while two others escaped immediately after the incident.

Another suspect was arrested and is being questioned by the police, he added.

The attack came a day after U.S. Pentagon confirmed that its security forces carried out an airstrike in central Somalia over the weekend, killing more than 150 Al-Shabaab fighters.

The Al-Shabaab insurgents have been staging deadly attacks in the recent past in the Horn of Africa nation, including the Jan.15 attack in which dozens of Kenyan soldiers were killed in Gedo region of southern Somalia. Endit
