1st LD: Civilian wounded in shooting attack in Jerusalem, two attackers killed

Xinhua, March 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police said a civilian was critically wounded when two attackers opened fire from a vehicle on Wednesday morning at a light rail stop near the New Gate of Jerusalem's Old City, the two attackers were then killed by police.

Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the attackers first opened fire on a bus in Ramot, a settlement neighborhood of Jerusalem.

The shooters opened fire again near Jerusalem's Old City as police were launching a manhunt. Police fired back. A Jerusalem hospital confirmed the death of shooters.

A spokesperson for the Israeli emergency service said that a civilian in his fifties was critically wounded, apparently by Israeli fire, as police tried to take over the assailants.

Samri said the assailants were in their 20s, one from the village of Aqab outside Jerusalem and the other was a resident of Jerusalem and an Israeli citizen.

This is the latest in a spate of attacks amidst a visit by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

On Tuesday, a U.S. tourist was killed and over a dozen of Israelis were injured in a slew of attacks, along with four dead Palestinian attackers, amid the arrival of Biden for a two-day visit to Israel and six months of fatal violence. Endit
