Xinhua, March 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Three mortar shells fired from the Syrian side of border hit Turkey's southeastern province of Kilis on Tuesday, killing one person and wounding another, private Dogan News Agency reported.

Two of the rockets exploded on an empty land, while the other struck a settlement, Kilis Mayor Hasan Kara was quoted as saying.

In January, one person was killed after a rocket landed at a school garden in the border province of Kilis, with several others were wounded.

Cross-border incidents have been frequent along Turkish border provinces during the Syrian conflict.

Kilis is on the edge of a roughly 100-km (60-mile) strip of border territory controlled by Syrian rebels. Endit
