Spanish treasury places 5.570 bln euros on market at negative interest rates

The Spanish treasury placed treasury bills valued at 5.570 billion euros (6.135 billion U.S. dollars) on the market on Tuesday at negative interest rates.

A total of 4.696 billion euros worth of 12-month treasury bills carried an average interest rate of -0.066 percent compared to the 0.0 percent of the previous issue held on Feb. 16.

The placement also included 875 million euros worth of six-month treasury bills that fetched an average interest rate of -0.114 percent compared to the -0.061 percent of the previous issue.

So far, the Spanish treasury has placed 32.3 billion euros of medium and long-term debt on the market which represents 25.8 percent of the 2016 treasury goals, which is 125.3 billion euros. Endit
