Levir Culpi to be new Fluminense coach

Xinhua, March 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Fluminense are to announce Levir Culpi as their new coach, according to reports in the Brazilian press.

The Rio de Janeiro club have been without a manager for a week since the sacking of Eduardo Baptista, but a deal with the former Atletico Mineiro boss should be finalised by the end of Friday.

Flu president Peter Siemsen and director Jorge Macedo met with Culpi last Tuesday in Curitiba to negotiate terms.

The boss has been among the favourites to assume the position, alongside former fans'favourite Cuca, over recent days.

The latter however let it be known through his agent he was no longer interested in coaching Fluminense for a third time in his career. Cuca being reportedly unhappy that the Laranjeiras outfit were negotiating with two other candidates at the same time he was holding discussions with the club.

Culpi left Belo Horizonte club Atletico Mineiro in November 2015. In Rio, he was coach at Botafogo from 2003 until 2004. Endit
