Belgium stresses political solution to end Syrian refugee crisis

Visiting Vice Prime Minister of Belgium Didier Reynders said Wednesday that the only way to handle the Syrian refugee crisis is to find a political solution.

According to the National News Agency, Reynders stressed "we will do our best efforts to make the truce an opportunity to convey humanitarian aid to the people in Syria and Iraq and ensure a political transfer of Syrian authority."

His Lebanese counterpart Genran Bassil considered the displaced Syrians case as a crisis requiring an international coordinative response.

Bassil stressed that Lebanon has never used such case for the purpose of practicing economic blackmailing or political pressures against its partners.

Lebanon deserved more assistance as the density of displaced people across its lands is high enough, he added.

According to the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees, Lebanon hosts more than 1.1 million Syrians who have fled their war-torn country since the protest against President Bashar Assad started. Endit
