Brazil have three athletes competing for the Laureus Prize, considered the Oscars of the sporting world.

Current world surfing champion Adriano de Souza was indicated in the "Action" category.

Skater Bob Burnquist, winner at the X Games despite suffering a broken arm has also been nominated for the "Action" award, and para-swimmer Daniel Dias is the third Brazilian nominated for sporting recognition.

Dias was the most successful medallist at the Parapan American Games in Toronto last year, winning all eight events in which he competed, and has been nominated in the "Paralympic" category.

Last year, Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina was nominated for the "Action" prize but came up short. The winner was North American Alan Eustace.

The awards ceremony will take place on 18 April in Berlin, Germany. Endit
