Algerian PM denies reports over cabinet reshuffle

Xinhua, March 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal on denied on Wednesday reports of an imminent cabinet reshuffle amid delicate economic situation due to downfall in oil prices at global markets.

"Reshuffling the cabinet lies, exclusively, within the powers of President Bouteflika," Sellal said in his remarks at the Parliament, adding "for the moment, the current cabinet will not be changed, as it is currently undertaking a delicate mission, amid complicated and difficult economic situation."

The President's Office last month was due to issue a statement to deny the resignation of the cabinet after the approval of the amended constitution, saying "cabinet reshuffle is not on the agenda."

The statement came in response to Secretary General of the FLN party, Amar Saadani, who said his parliament-major party, should lead the government in accordance with the new constitution.

Earlier last month, the overwhelming majority of deputies of the two houses of Parliament approved the newly amended constitution, amid boycott of opposition parties. Endit
