Morocco, Germany to sign comprehensive security agreement

Xinhua, March 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco and Germany have agreed to sign a comprehensive security agreement to cover all crimes, particularly terrorism, Morocco's interior minister said on Monday.

"We have agreed to sign quickly a new accord on global security, which covers all forms of criminality, particularly terrorism," Interior Minister Mohamed Hassad told the press following his talks with his German counterpart Thomas de Maiziere.

The German minister underlined that the security agreement will fight against international terrorism, smuggling, trafficking, organized crimes and illegal immigration.

As for the repatriation of Moroccans claiming refugee status on groundless basis, he said the two sides agreed to "repatriate as many people as possible", adding that the identification process will last for 45 days.

According to a statement of Morocco's king Mohammed VI office, the King and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed over phone that the two countries will review such cases, and immediately repatriate the people with unconvincing refugee status.

Hoping to get access to asylums in European countries, thousands of people from North Africa have claimed to be from war-torn countries such as Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan. Endit
