Time to build global energy interconnection: Chinese official

Xinhua, February 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

The prerequisite is met for building global energy interconnection (GEI), which can serve as a platform to promote clean energy globally, China's state grid chairman said here Thursday.

GEI is a globally interconnected grid with a new ultra high-voltage grid as the backbone, Liu Zhenya, chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China, said on the sidelines of the IHS CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, Texas.

He noted that the prerequisite for building GEI are met as there are abundant clean energy resources, technology and equipment.

He made it clear that GEI construction can be divided into three phases:domestic interconnection, intra-continental interconnection, and intercontinental interconnection.

The chairman also called for efforts to accelerate the development of GEI, which will cover every corner of the world through land grid and undersea cables.

The IHS CERAWeek energy conference is a leading forum on energy. This year's conference, themed "Energy Transition: Strategies for a New World," attracts more than 2,800 delegates from more than 50 countries and regions. Endi
