Nearly 250 Indian students fall ill after lunch

A total of 247 school students fell ill after having lunch at school Thursday in western Indian state of Maharashtra, local media reported.
The suspected food poisoning incident took place in Vikramgad of Palghar district of the state. The condition of 17 students is said to be unstable, Times of India online reported.
The children were served food called Khichdi, which is a mixture of rice and dal and within half an hour, students started complained of stomachache, vomiting and giddiness.
Teachers took them to a primary health center where doctors suspected food poisoning, said the report.
Food poisoning in schools takes place from time to time in India.
In July 2013, 23 students died at a primary school in Saran district of the eastern state of Bihar after eating a midday meal contaminated with pesticide. Endit
