Spain's economy grew by 3.2 percent in 2015, according to data published on Thursday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The figure was the highest since 2007, thanks to a better performance of consumption and investment that showed rises of 3 percent and 6.4 percent respectively on a year-on-year basis.

The INE highlighted that household consumption rose by 3.1 percent and that of the public administration rose by 2.7 percent, while exports rose by 5.4 percent and imports rose by 7.5 percent.

Investment in construction rose by 5.3 percent in 2015, the INE pointed out, and employment increased by 3 percent which meant around 495,000 new jobs.

Spain's economy grew by 0.8 percent in the last quarter of 2015 when compared with the third one thanks to an increase in consumption and investment. Meanwhile, the country's economy grew by 3.5 percent in the last quarter of the year when compared with the fourth quarter in 2014.

The acting ministers of employment and public works Fatima Banez and Ana Pastor considered the data published on Thursday as "excellent", especially because of the impact it had in job creation. Enditem
