Ten men PSV hold Atletico to draw

Xinhua, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

PSV and Atletico drew 0-0 in Eindhoven on Wednesday in their first leg in the last sixteen of the Champions League, with the reigning Dutch champions playing with ten men for the last 22 minutes.

In the first half the first main chance was for the visitors when Luciano Vietto was denied a goal by PSV defender Jeffrey Bruma. The following opportunities were for Atletico as well with PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet saving attempts by Koke and Antoine Griezmann.

The first half ended with some chances for Jurgen Locadia and Davy Propper on behalf of the home-team, but both missed.

In the second half Atletico found the net, but Diego Godin's goal was disallowed. The Uruguayan defender had pushed Hector Moreno before he headed in.

After PSV striker Gaston Pereiro, who replaced suspended captain Luuk de Jong, received his second yellow card for a bodycheck on Godin PSV had to finish the last 22 minutes with ten men.

In a hectic final phase PSV managed to deal with the Spanish pressure and keep the clean sheet. With this result both teams will have hope for the return on March 15 in Madrid. Endit
