Visiting President of the World Bank (WB) Jim Yong Kim on Tuesday made the commitment that the WB will support Vietnam with more loans.
Kim met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Tuesday, saying that Vietnam has gained various accomplishments in areas including socio-economic development, poverty reduction, narrowing development gap, and improving the living standards of local people.
The WB will pay attention to support Vietnam in access of long-term loans with low interest rates for the country's development of renewable energy sources, education, and healthcare among others, VNA quoted the WB chief as saying.
Dung, for his part, said at the meeting that after 30 years of Doi Moi (renewal) process, despite the accomplishments, Vietnam is facing big difficulties, including war consequences, impacts by climate change and rising sea level, as well as challenges from its infrastructure system and quality of human resources among others.
Vietnam wished to receive the WB's continued cooperation, especially in human resources development, policy consultation, and technical assistance as the country is on the way to realize its development goals, said Dung.
The WB president visited Vietnam on Tuesday to launch a report named "Vietnam 2035: Toward Prosperity, Creativity, Equity, and Democracy," according to a press release by the WB.
On Tuesday, Kim also met with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, and Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang to discuss how the WB can boost support to help the country achieve its aspirations, said the WB's press release. Endit
